How Hydrotec Cleared a Distribution Pipework system of Waste Oils on a site in the UK
Working on behalf of a demolition contractor, Hydrotec was tasked with removing waste oils from a distribution pipework network running across a site. The pipework extended for more than 550 meters, with diameters ranging from 14" to 36".
The largest section of pipework was approximately 70% full of waste oil, with the total volume of waste contained within the network estimated at around 340m³.
Distribution Pipe Highway involving clearance of pipes up to 36" diameter spanning 2,500 meters. Installing a vacuum pipe prior to operation of the pneumatic pump. An operative inserting a foam pig to pipework to enable the clearance of crude oil.
The Solution
Hydrotec deployed specialist pigging equipment to systematically clear the pipework. A compressor was mobilised alongside a series of valves, couplings and specialist pigs, allowing the pigs to be propelled through each individual pipe run.
The pipework presented a number of challenges, including changes in both level and direction. Hydrotec's flexible pigging equipment was able to negotiate these variations while maintaining effective contract with the waste material.
Operations were carried out from the highest point of each pipe run, with the waste progressively pushed towards the discharge point. The recovered material was then drawn off the further processing before being transported from site for appropriate disposal by licensed operators.
The Results
Through careful planning, specialist equipment and a controlled pigging operation, Hydrotec was able to safely and efficiently clear a complex distribution pipework network containing an estimated 340m³ of waste oil.
The project demonstrated Hydrotec's ability to manage large-scale waste removal from extensive pipework infrastructure while maintaining a controlled approach to containment, recovery and disposal.
Have a challenging pipework clearance project?
With extensive experience and a specialist fleet of equipment, Hydrotec has the capability to safety clear pipework up to 36" in diameter across the UK.
Whether through pigging, vacuuming or high-pressure jetting, our specialist teams can methodically clean complex pipework while safely containing contaminants and managing their removal from site through licensed wasted operators.
