Delivering Results: Sludge Reduction Success at a Cheese Manufacturing Facility

At Hydrotec Industrial Services Ltd, we pride ourselves on helping clients improve efficiency, reduce waste volumes and operate more sustainably. Our recent demonstration at a Cheese Manufacturing Facility in Wales is a perfect example of that commitment in action.
The Challenge
The site generates sludge waste as a by-product of the cheese-making process — specifically from the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system used to treat wastewater on site. Prior to our involvement, the DAF sludge was being discharged at approximately 6% dry solids content, resulting in high waste volumes and increased disposal costs.
Our Approach
Hydrotec was invited to demonstrate the capabilities of our MP-DW-301 mobile dewatering Screw Press — a compact, efficient system designed for sludge thickening and volume reduction. During the trial, our team successfully processed DAF sludges at up to 4m³ per hour using the 301 unit.
The Results
The outcomes were significant:
Dry solids content increased from ~6% to ~28%
Overall waste volume reduced by approximately 70-80%
Improved handling efficiency and reduced disposal requirements
These results demonstrate the substantial performance of our MP-DW-301 Screw Press — delivering cleaner, drier solids and a more cost-effective waste management solution.
Next Steps
We are now exploring disposal options for the dewatered solids produced during the trial, as part of our ongoing support.
